Today’s audio diary is called Whiteboard.

The reason I want to talk about this is because I have realized how many more things I have accomplished by using my whiteboard properly.

First of all, I have one in my office. Second, I actually have one in my bedroom. Note that I have a journal. And of course, when I have ideas and when I’m out, I type it into my iPhone that I always have with me. Sometimes, when I’m talking on the phone, I’m just thinking on writing it on a piece of paper. But what I do is, at the end of the day, I put all the ideas on the whiteboard.

And we tend to use paper if we wake up in the middle of the night with a great idea. But you know, paper gets lost. Or you don’t go back to your journal. Or you haven’t looked at your phone.

At the end of the day, I like to make sure that all my ideas are up on the whiteboard in one spot, so that I see them on a daily basis. And they’re looking at me, like something that’s screaming to get done. It doesn’t get lost with the zillion other ideas you have, or misplaced with the zillion other pieces of paper. When you have something hitting you on the face, from room to room, it really makes you act on it.

Just for a funny story: my fourteen year old asked for a whiteboard, and we just put up one in her room. And she’s writing down things that she wants to get done. And it’s funny because she’s a real technology kid, much better at using the iPad, iPhone, and Mac than I am. Yet she loves her whiteboard.

There’s something about seeing your idea up there that really makes it come to completion.
